One of the notable new features of Nitro PDF Pro 14 is its accessibility tools. With these tools, you can make your PDF documents accessible and compliant with WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). You can now define the document structure automatically or manually using tag identifiers, set the document and tag language, define the logical reading order, embed fonts, and mark your document as PDF/UA compliant. These and other features enable screen readers and assistive technologies to make the content of your PDF files more accessible.

Another new feature is Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for Traditional Chinese. Using OCR, you can now recognize and edit Chinese text in your PDF documents. Note, however, that the OCR language is distributed as a separate package and must be installed in addition to Nitro PDF Pro.

Nitro PDF Pro 14 also offers an improved localization experience. Issues related to formatting, missing words, and redirections have been resolved to ensure the software can be used optimally in different languages.

General improvements and bug fixes for Nitro

Nitro has listened to your feedback, corrected errors and made general improvements to enhance your Nitro PDF Pro experience.

• The distribution program now displays a version number in the lower left corner, which allows customers to know whether they are using the recommended version or not.
• A non-English language for the spell checker, selected in the deployment program, is now retained in Nitro PDF Pro.
• Improved accuracy of the strikethrough area when striking through areas that contained lines that extended beyond the desired strikethrough area.
• Improved support for displaying control characters created with non-standard fonts in a PDF document.
• When a PDF document with bookmarks is split into multiple PDFs, the bookmark names are no longer preceded by underscores, which was the case in some circumstances.
• Improved handling of hyperlinks in PDF documents that do not properly follow the PDF specification. Nitro PDF Pro now takes broken links into account so they continue to function without changing the underlying problem.
• Inserting a new page no longer deletes previously saved bookmarks.
• Using the replacement tool to replace certain pages in a PDF file no longer deletes saved marks and bookmarks.
• Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes no longer occur.
• There are no more authentication errors with services like Nitro Sign or other third-party services like iManage.
• The problem of switching between levels in a PDF document has been solved.
• Nitro PDF Pro now displays an error message when an invalid URL is added to the document.
• Stamps in PDF documents are no longer distorted when saved in PDF/A-2b format.
• Using the Outlook add-in to convert an email to PDF/A-1b generates a document conforming to the PDF/A-1b format.
• Form fields that display times now correctly display PM time in “HH:MM dd” format.
• The “Save As” command now also works for folder names containing a commercial &.
• Documents completed in DocuSign but not modified are no longer displayed as modified.
