The new home screen helps you stay organized and productive – a central place to organize, manage and search all your PDF files.

• Recent files list: Shows your most recently opened files from your computer, Document cloud storage, or third-party storage such as OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, and SharePoint.
• Recommended tools: helps you find the best Acrobat tools such as “edit PDF”, “create PDF”, “merge PDF files” and many more.
• Search field: searches all your Document Cloud files and files that have been sent to be viewed, reviewed or signed.
• Contextual area: allows you to perform actions on files in all views of the home page with context menus, as well as display participant status and action history for shared documents.

View MIP-protected PDF files in Acrobat 2020 and Reader 2020

You can now use the Adobe Acrobat 2020 and Acrobat Reader 2020 desktop applications for Windows and Mac to open files protected by Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) solutions, including Azure Information Protection (AIP) and Information Protection with Office 365.

Acrobat 2020 and Acrobat Reader 2020 automatically recognize an MIP-protected file and prompt you to download the corresponding plug-in from the Help page. Once the plug-in is downloaded and installed, protected files can be opened just like any other PDF file in Acrobat or Reader.

Color adjustment function in the “Fill and Sign” tool

(Acrobat Pro and Standard)

You can now use the “Fill & Sign” tool in Acrobat 2020 to select the desired color for filling out the PDF form, and then sign it. To change the color, click the “Color” button in the “Fill & Sign” toolbar.

By default, the signature color is black. To keep the default color, uncheck the “Keep original color for signatures” box.

Perform OCR on scanned documents with Live Text

Acrobat 2020 can now perform OCR for scanned PDF files that contain images with live text.

• Open the scanned PDF file in Acrobat 2020.
• Select Tools > Enhance Scans > Text Recognition > In this file.
• In the toolbar, click Settings. The Recognize Text dialog box appears.
• In the output drop-down list, select Searchable Image or Searchable Image (exact) and click OK.
• Click on Detect Text in the toolbar.

Extensions to preflighting and PDF/UA validation in preflighting

(Acrobat Pro function only)

• Preflight Libraries: Preflight profiles, fixes, and checks are now organized into libraries.
• You will find more information under Preflight Libraries (PDF | 711 KB).
• Preflight Variables: Variables allow you to dynamically adapt profiles, controls, and corrections as you apply them. Variables can be used when editing profiles, exams, or corrections when the orange triangle is displayed. Variables also allow you to filter existing objects.
• Preflight supports the new Ghent Workgroup PDF 2015 specification: the new GWG specifications are based on PDF/X-4 and support native transparency as well as media-neutral RGB workflows.
• PDF/UA Validation in Preflight: Preflighter now allows you to correct common accessibility issues and perform validations using the international universal accessibility standard PDF/UA.

Improving the user experience with DirectInk

The enhanced pen tool with DirectInk technology allows you to write and draw directly on the document even more simply and precisely, without having to select a tool.

Sign PDF files with DirectInk

The new DirectInk support in the Certificates app’s signature field provides a more natural experience and gives you more control over how your signature looks when signing on Windows 10 devices.
